We apply a strong pre-emergent control for crabgrass and other annual grass weeds. We have once again been using a product that has 4 times less active ingredient as other products used prior to this control. For the lawns that had a crabgrass problem last year, we will make a second application in the Late Spring service to extend the residual effect of the first application. Pre-emergent crabgrass control actually prevents all grasses from germinating; therefore, this product cannot be applied in the Spring in areas were we plan to seed. In areas that we need to seed in the Spring, we will be using the only product that controls crabgrass on newly-seeded areas, called Tupersan. This product has a short residual time and, therefore, we will need to make a second application in the Late Spring service to prevent crabgrass for the entire summer.
